A Clinical Therapeutic Effect of Irritable Colon Syndrome Treated with Trimebutine Maleate (Polybutine^(®))

Abstract
|
|
|
In order to elucidate the effect of Trimebutine Maleate (Polybutine®) on irritable colon syndrome, the drug was given orally before each meal 3 times a day for 3 weeks to a total of 43 patients with irritable colon syndrome.
Out of the 40 patients with the abdominal pain and discomport type of the irritable colon syndrome, 37 cases(92.5%) exhibited a definite improvement in subjective symptoms and out of the 32 cases with loose defecation type, 30 cases (93.6%) were improved. Out of the 11 cases with constipation type, 10 cases (90.8%) were improved.
The overall effective rate of trimebutine on this clinical trial was remarkable with 95.3%.
No definite side effect of trimebutine was found during these studies.
